What to Expect During a Professional Garage Door Inspection

Published May 8, 2026

What Happens During an Inspection?

Takes 30–45 minutes. Covers every component affecting safety, performance, and lifespan.

Visual Inspection

Full assessment of door, tracks, hardware, and opener from inside and outside.

Spring Check

Gaps between coils, rust, proper tension, matching pairs.

Cable and Drum Inspection

Fraying, rust, proper tension. If cables fail, the door can drop.

Roller and Hinge Assessment

Flat spots, cracks, smooth rotation. Worn rollers = noisy door (inexpensive fix).

Track Alignment

Parallel, plumb, properly spaced. Check for dents, bends, debris.

Opener Function Test

Smooth travel, proper force, remote response, sensor alignment, auto-reverse.

Weatherstripping

Bottom, side, top seals checked for gaps and deterioration.

Lubrication

All moving parts lubricated — adds years to component life.

Balance Test

Door disconnected from opener and tested manually. Should stay at any point.

How Often?

Once a year for residential. Twice for heavy-use doors. Call 201-500-3804 to schedule.
